The history of Papua New Guinea Flag
Flag of PNG -
Papua New Guinea unites the once-German territory of New Guinea with Australian administered Papua. The country gained independence in 1975. The distinctive national flag had triangle of red over black. The kumul bird of paradise, unique to the country and first used as an emblem in the 19th century, flies across the red half, showing PNG’s emergence into nationhood. The stars of the Southern Cross on the black reflect ties with Australia and other South Pacific nation. Black, red and yellow are traditional colours among the people of the country. The flag was design by a 15 year old school and was adopted in 1971.
